I always had this huge chip on my shoulder about refusing the flowers because I wasnt a mom (I had kids later in life), but my own mother would force me to take it because it was a free flower. Then I served in a Branch with 90% women who had absent husbands and who also grew up with absent fathers. Mothers Day for me is when my children and Grandchildren call me. I recommend that you take President Eyrings approach and assume that the women to whom you are speaking are doing their best, but that often their very best means just barely hanging on. There was nothing you could do that would ever make you feel like she didnt love you, but she always told you the truth about your behavior and was not afraid to be entirely real with you even when you wanted to lie to yourself. They do not need to be perfect in order to partake of the sacrament, but they should have a spirit of humility and repentance in their hearts. I am understanding your POV.
